DriftCon Afterdark will be held on September 10, 2016 from 4pm to 10pm at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. This event is combined with round 5 of the Evergreen Drift ProAm series.

DC DRIFT GAMES FORMAT

The DC Drift Games at DriftCon Afterdark will run throughout the day and night of the event. This part of the event is supposed to be entirely for fun. We want drivers to experience styles of drifting that they are not able to do in standard competition. Since it will be held after the ProAm competition in theory drivers should have nothing to lose. Drivers are encouraged to give ridealongs (only passengers who have signed the waiver) and have a great time at the last large drifting event of the year!

The final schedule will be posted soon but it will go something like this:
DC Games Practice > ProAm Competition > Drift Limbo Challenge > Parking Drift Challenge > Captains Draft Tandem Train Event

DRIFT LIMBO

Drivers will start on the Classic 3/8ths layout which will have an additional set of identifying cones / barrels known as the LIMBO GATE. Drivers must navigate the track and position their cars safely through the gate without knocking over any pylons.

As drivers continue their laps, the LIMBO GATE will get smaller in size until it’s just barely wide enough for cars to drift through. This is similar to the limbo stick lowering in a standard limbo competition.

  • Car must be on throttle and in drift when passing through the gate
  • After 2 failed passes (cones down or not drifting) the driver is eliminated from the competition

PARKING CHALLENGE

A set of cones arranged in the center of the infield will outline a targeted parking spot. Drivers will (one at a time) proceed through a series of drifts and are challenged with sliding their cars into the designated parking spot.

Drivers that successfully make it into the spot without knocking over any cones will get back in line for another attempt until all other drivers have been eliminated.   After each cycle of successful drivers, we will alter the run up and tighten up the parking space slightly to increase difficulty.  Last man standing / best overall parker wins!

CAPTAINS DRAFT TANDEM TRAIN EVENT

Introducing the DriftCon Tandem Train Draft! This is a completely new format (to our knowledge) that we came up with exclusively for DriftCon Afterdark this year. This is a Tandem Train/Team Tandem competition featuring a captain draft selection process. This means that two teams are determined at the event via a draft selection from elected team captains (like picking a team for dodgeball). The competition is split into 3 parts:

  • The Draft
  • Finals Selection Qualifiers
  • Final Team Tandem Battle

Two seasoned veteran drivers will be selected as TT Captains by DriftCon staff. ProAm and caged Drift Games competitors will be eligible to compete and will stage up on the infield for a team selection process – The Draft.  After a coin flip to determine which will choose first, the TT Captains will alternate back and forth assigning drivers to their teams. As drivers are selected they will line up on their respective sides so the fans can get a final look at the teams before heading into staging for the Team Finals Qualifying.

Each team will then proceed with runs starting with a max of 8 drivers on each team (7 drivers plus 1 captain). The Tandem Train Teams will run the full layout with the worst driver from each team being removed from the team after each run. Teams will alternate back and forth until the top 4 of each team is decided. Teams are permitted to change the train order if they would like during this selection process as long as it doesn’t hold up the show. Judges will use familiar criteria to judge the on track performances.

In the event a team member is crashed into and not able to compete further both the driver deemed at fault and the driver not able to move forward will be eliminated in the same round of qualifying.

Note: The captain can never be eliminated and must always be the lead driver. It’s their job to set the line and determine the speed for the team. Before starting the competition a Backup TT Captain can be chosen in the event the captain’s has issues with their car.

Once the final two teams of 4 are decided they will battle in the standard Team Tandem format with the overall best team getting the win – only 1 award in this event!
