DriftCon Afterdark will be held on September 30, 2023 from 2pm to 10pm at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. The Drift Games and Team Tandem Showoff will be featured alongside the Double 8 Showdown.

Tech inspection requirements are similar to any Open Drift day.

These parts of the event will run throughout the day and night of the event. This part of the event is designed to be our fun end of the season sendoff. We want drivers to experience styles of drifting that they are not able to do in standard competition. Since it will be held AFTER the Double 8 Showdown, in theory drivers should have nothing to lose. Drivers are encouraged to give ride-alongs (only passengers who have signed the waiver) and have a great time at the last large drifting event of the year!

360° DRIFT CHALLENGE

The 360° Drift Challenge is a driver and crowd favorite so we wanted to make sure it happened again this year! Zach Farrar did an epic 360° spin during his Big Entry a few years ago and the crowd loved it.

Tips for impressing the judges:

  • If you do not complete a full 360° you will receive a zero
  • If you spin and stop or go off track/hit cones you will receive a zero
  • You should be drifting the line shown PRIOR to doing the 360°
  • You may start your initiation BEFORE the green marks but no bonus points will be awarded from the earlier start
  • After completing the full rotation, you should attempt to continue drifting the rest of the driving line
  • You will be judged BEFORE and AFTER the 360° attempt and the person who completes the task flawlessly with the most overall style will likely win
  • Multiple 360° in a row will not improve score – only the first will be judged
  • Bonus style points for drivers who have a lighting setup installed and active during their attempt
  • If you spin out or stop proceed to the exit and get back in line for another attempt
  • Any other out of the ordinary actions that the judge / track officials decide

First place for best styled complete 360° while maintaining line will win the 360° Drift Challenge!

BIG ENTRY CONTEST

A popular and familiar competition returns with a couple of changes. Not only will drivers have to exhibit skill, style, and technique with a massive entry into a tighter radius turn – but they’ll have to maintain their composure and transition into an arcing wall of noodles to successfully finish the run.

This will run just like previous years with staging on turns three and four of the 3/8ths bank. For as long as time permits we’ll send cars one at a time down the course. Judges will factor in both initiation style and overall cleanliness through the noodle barrel wall. First and second place will be awarded during our podium ceremony.

*The idea is to TAG the noodles on the wall. Zach Farrar 360° is technically a 0 for spinning out…

  • Once cleared and sent, a driver will make his approach down the main straight – speed is up to the driver.
  • Driver has open choice of how they wish to initiate, the faster and more aggressive the better.
  • Drivers will get as many runs as we can fit in the allotted time – the driver with the best entry and most number of noodles hit wins the contest.
  • Must hold and maintain the drift and finish through the infield.
  • Exit on access road and get back in line.

*REMINDER – Competing in ALL of the Drift Games is optional. If not doing the Big Entry Contest, follow the schedule closely and listen for when to get staged up for other games.

TEAM TANDEM SHOWOFF

For the last few years, Team Tandem has taken over a portion of the Drift Games at DriftCon Afterdark. For 2023 we will be limiting the total number of teams competing to TEN on a cageless layout.

Teams will stage up COMPLETE TEAMS (no solo driving) for qualifying at the start of competition. Each team will get 2-3 runs to be judged for qualifying and determine initial bracket position. Teams who qualify as 7-10 will be competing directly for a shot of entering the Top 8 bracket.

For this event style and appearance will play a much larger part than normal during qualifying. Leon Ban will be our Style judge and will have 50 points to award to each team in terms of theme, lighting, and overall appearance of the team together. The other 2 judges will be allotted 25 points each to award for line/angle and proximity respectively.

After qualifying, normal Team Tandem judging will come into play and each judge will vote for a team to advance and have equal weight.

Within each “battle” each team will get 2 runs to put on their best show. The better of the two teams will advance in the bracket. In the event this is taking too long we reserve the right to adjust to one run for each team per battle. This adjustment would only be made after each main group of the bracket changes. Top 16, Great 8, Final 4, etc.

If a “battle” is too close to call the judges reserve the right to ask for a One More Time.

TEAMS COMPETING

Team Tandem is NOT judged like normal drifting competition.  Judges will be focusing on proximity and overall team skill. Teams should be trying to drive within arm’s reach of one another. Drivers should be on the same line, with matching style and form. While line, style, angle, and excitement will all continue to be judged factors, what we really want to see is synchronized style and performance. The lead driver is responsible for laying down the best line and the follow cars are to follow the lead driver and keep in as close proximity and uniformly as possible.

  1. * Passing is discouraged – Teams should stay in order from start to finish.
  2.  Drivers should not straighten up or make severe corrections.
  3.  If a team member loses control or spins out/stops drifting and starts over this is considered a severe correction.
  4.  Other points can be taken away / or added depending on a judge’s discretion.
  5.  There will be no “restart” or “do-overs” for teams.
  6.  No disputes. All judges’ decisions are final.

Note: No cash prize will be awarded in this competition.
