DriftCon launched in 2014 and has steadily grown into the largest ProAm drifting event in the PNW. This year we had our biggest 5/8th’s ProAm competitor list and nearly reached our maximum for Team Tandem competitors.

The standard format of the Great 75 Car Show, ProAm round 2 on the 5/8th’s bank, Hoon-off Burnout Competition, and our Team Tandem Competition returned with slight tweaks.

The smell of tires and race gas filled the air when the track went hot at Evergreen Speedway. The constant sounds of tire screeching and banging rev limiters is a welcome soundtrack to the event. With the competition season in full swing it was finally time for ProAm drivers to tighten up their belts and prepare themselves for the battles ahead on big bad 5/8th’s bank. Drivers and fans especially enjoyed this round because of the immense step-up in speed and skill required to drive the same layout as Formula Drift. Without a doubt Evergreen is one of the fastest ProAm tracks in the nation.

More than 20 capable drivers showed up to compete with 17 drivers earning a spot in the main show. There were some outstanding battles throughout the day with no major crashes or casualties. In the end it would be Chase Schmidt taking the third place spot, Shawn Olin in second place, and Cameron Moore taking home the top podium spot.

With the ProAm finished up and more or less in one piece it was time to switch gears into the ever-popular Team Tandem Competition. This format has really been gaining popularity in the last few years. A total of 10 teams showed up which meant a $1000 prize and the Team Tandem Cup were up for grabs for the top team. The teams were encouraged to come up with creative names for the competition to emphasize their unique styles.

The following teams battled in competition:

Looking Cute, Feeling Cute
Liberty Boys
The Disappointments
Mixed Breed
Chinchillin’ Drift Team
Team Sushi and Kraut
Team Mansu Miata
Tinker Bots
Daddy Daycare
Triple Threat

All drivers performed outstandingly but in the end it was Mixed Breed in the third, Chinchillin’ Drift Team in second, and Daddy Daycare in first.

The Great 75 Car Show was once again held alongside the track with some slight adjustments. Some awards were determined by our traditional voting method but all of the Best of Show and Best Make awards were judged by our new judging staff (Hiro Kanno and Rob Evo – two Best of Show winners of the past).
