DriftCon Season Opener 2021 / Evergreen Drift Round 1 – Full Event Coverage

In early April when it seemed like things were starting to get to a bit more normal in Washington we were informed by Evergreen Speedway that NissanFest would not be possible to hold this year due to border restrictions. This was unfortunate as it is always a fun informal opener to the drift season in the NW. They offered us the date and wanted to try to throw something together on short notice. After a full year of not being able to host in-person events we jumped at the chance. Despite only having 3 weeks to organize and promote the event with the help of our friends at StanceWars we pulled it off. It was a great season opener and we were grateful to have fans in the stands!

Instead of a normal Great 75 Car Show on the midway next to the track, StanceWars held their StanceWars Elite Car Show in the side lot next to the grandstands. Nearly 100 cars showed up and displayed their vehicles in this exclusive show. It was a great show with lots of heavily stanced cars! See the gallery below for some of our favorites.

This event was held in conjunction with round 1 of the Evergreen Drift ProAm series. Despite the date change we still managed to qualify with 18 drivers. After some great battles on the mini-Irwindale 3/8 layout Tyler Mayer secured first place with his new for 2021 Pulse for Health S13. Second place was Nate Snyder and third place was Brett Williams.

For extra on track activities, we did something a bit different for the Team Tandem competition. This was a smaller turnout than normal as this date was also the same as Drift Week with only 6 teams showing up to compete. The prize for the top 4 finishers was automatic Great 8 qualification in our big competition in June that has a cash prize. Three Six Mafia, Fuster Cluck, Tacoma Boyz, and Ratchet Slayers secured the advantage going into our June event.

We also threw in a Big Entry Contest for good measure. Bryan Sturman did not disappoint the crowd and secured first place. Leon Ban also performed well and took second.

Thank you to everyone that attended the DriftCon Season Opener! After a full year of not hosting events due to COVID restrictions we were so excited to welcome people back to Evergreen Speedway. We’ll see you at DriftCon on June 5, 2021.
